TOMS RIVER – Police are urging drivers to avoid a section of Route 37 while they investigate and clear a crash involving a school bus.

The Toms River School District sent out a robo-call to all parents who are signed up for the service. The call explained that no children were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Toms River Police spokesperson Jillian Messina told JerseyShoreOnline that the driver of the bus was taken to Community Medical Center for minor injuries.

The crash involved a school bus and a roll-off truck, she said.

All lanes in both directions on Route 37 were closed near Romana Lane, officials said. This is because utility poles were down and wires were on the ground. The State Department of Transportation is redirecting traffic at the scene.

The school district announced that all district buses and all tiers will be experiencing delays, as they will be rerouted from the high traffic area. The district’s bus depot is to the west of Romana Lane, so any bus that was parked there for the day will have to find another way around.

Police are still at the scene, and will provide more information when they are able to do so. JerseyShoreOnline.com will provide updates when they are available.
